With medical interventions, we can live to be 100! We age because we acquire deficiencies and toxicities. No condition in the body is the function of just one thing. For example, weight gain is a manifestation of imbalance in hormones (insulin especially), nutrients (that activate fat breakdown and muscle development) and toxicities.
Hormone imbalances occur from age 30 onwards. By age 50, we are at 50% of hormone function for estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, DHEA, melatonin, and Growth Hormone.
Hormones are messengers that communicate with the cells of the body. They are an essential part of the metabolic process of living. Hormones are essential for cell, organ, and metabolic function.
Our hormone production declines as we age, or suffer disease, exposure to toxins or trauma. When this happens, we begin an accelerated aging process. Decline in hormone production is one of the major reasons for our deterioration as we get older, both physically and mentally.
Healthy lifestyle plays an important role in optimizing cellular function; however at some point organs will not produce hormones and supplementation will be needed. As the stimulation to cells declines, the cells degenerate. Every brain cell in the body has a receptor for estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Same with every heart cell, every nerve cell, every bone call, every vascular cell, every skin cell. So with declining levels of hormones, these cells lose stimulation and eventually degenerate. Preservation depends on restoration of hormone levels.
Nutrients are critical. Every cell reaction, whether to activate a brain neurotransmitter or to break down fat and build muscle, needs a vitamin and mineral to proceed. Every hormone needs a vitamin and mineral to activate its receptor. Nutrients are universally deficient. In the U.S., the leaching of the soil leads to a state of relative nutrient depletion in our food supply. So we cannot get the nutrients needed to activate hormones and other pathways through food alone. This is the premise for supplementing nutrients through super-foods (i.e. green food supplements and phytonectars) and formulated products.
Toxins impair the absorption and utilization of nutrients and hormones. This is the premise for regular bowel, liver and tissue detoxification and specific detoxification based on specific toxins, heavy metals identified.
Mind and body interventions are critical to the success of a restorative model. Introducing patients to breathing techniques (breath awareness), Tai Chi, Qi Gong, YOGA, time management (i.e. uncommit weekends) and a myriad of therapeutic body interventions (such as hydrotherapy, far infra red sauna, energetic body work, exfoliative and relaxation treatments) are a major part of our model. The interventions work when stress and body pain are addressed. These are however beyond the scope of this manual.
